About Amanda Marleau

I have been counselling for over 10 years and love working with couples, families, individuals. Everyone is journeying in life differently and I will meet you where you are. I graduated from Loma Linda University in 2011 with a Masters of Science in Marital and Family Therapy and then obtained my Registration as a Psychologist. My previous education included a Bachelor of Science specializing in psychology from the University of Alberta.

When I am not in the office, I am spending time with my friends and family. I enjoy attending agility classes with my dog, Leo and enjoy hiking in the ravine. I go to church regularly and enjoy singing in the choir. I am a proud auntie to three nieces and three nephews.

My Approach

Warmth and Respect: I emphasize loving appreciation for each client and offer an environment of acceptance, safety, support, and trust.

Self-understanding: I focus on simply understanding you better — especially why you feel and think the things that you do. Insight about yourself can give you freedom and choice — so that your reactions are  less automatic and you are more in your control.

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) was developed by Sue Johnson. EFT is a therapy that assumes emotions can be a healing source. It has been found effective for individuals who suffer from moderate depression, childhood abuse and various problems such as interpersonal issues. EFT has also been found effective for couples in distress.

Emotionally Focused Therapy  was developed to help individuals resolve painful emotions by working with them instead of avoiding them because emotions are sources of useful information. EFT explores how problems happen and not just why they occur. Both past interpersonal relationships as well as the self are examined.

"Who you become is infinitely more important than what you have."
